Southampton City Council and Capita flexible transformation in partnership

Our partnership with Southampton City Council, provides a range of services including, procurement, property consultancy, customer services, HR and payroll, revenues and benefits, learning and development, health and safety and IT

Our partnership with Southampton City Council embraces a culture of openness and flexibility to transform services for local residents. It began in 2007 as a ten year partnership, when Southampton City Council was facing pressure to cut costs without reducing services

Our services for Southampton include:

  • revenues and benefits
  • procurement
  • ICT
  • property facilities management, estates valuations and technical services
  • customer services
  • HR administration, consultancy and payroll
  • learning and development
  • print and post room facilities
  • occupational health
  • health and safety.

In 2012, the partnership was extended by a further five years. In a new and more flexible partnership model, it enables Southampton to deliver more sustainable services and effectively adapt to changing needs against a backdrop of ongoing budgetary pressures, changing technology and customer needs. Under the new partnership, we are also investing in the community to create jobs, raise the aspirations of young people and grow the local economy.

Southampton Partnership highlights:

Since the partnership began we have:

  • delivered £16.m worth of savings
  • maintained 98% of performance targets across all services
  • achieved the highest ever council tax collections and benefits paid to eligible customers, despite a 90% increase in customer demand as a result of the economic downturn
  • achieved over 90% customer service satisfaction
  • transformation of Southampton’s back-office and procurement function
  • created a shared service hub in Southampton that is capable of delivering services to our wider client base and in turn creating jobs and contributing to the local economy.

Through our corporate and social responsibility (CSR) programme we have:

  • created 122 new local jobs
  • developed 39 new apprenticeship opportunities
  • donated over 2,566 hours to our corporate responsibility programme in Southampton – representing over £64,000 worth of investment into our local community
  • won eight industry awards, including a Big Society Award from Prime Minister David Cameron, for helping young people across the city gain skills for work.

Making online the number one choice when applying for parking permits in Southampton

I enjoyed working with a great team from Capita to re-design the parking permit application and renewals process. Cross functional workshops saw representatives from many areas working together putting the Customer at the heart to streamline processes, provide an online option whilst reducing the cost to serve. Overall a great success that puts Southampton First and at the forefront of Digital change.
