About this event

Capita’s joint venture partnership with Barnet Council, Re Ltd, has been shortlisted for the 2019 LGC Awards in the innovation category alongside 8 other local authorities.

Re Ltd.’s Planning Enforcement team, have been recognised as adopting a truly innovative approach to service delivery on behalf of the London Borough of Barnet. Against challenging financial conditions, the team have introduced several new initiatives, which has transformed a traditional planning function into a modern, forward-thinking service with a proactive approach to development.

Barnet has now become one of the most productive local planning authorities, both in terms of the number of planning enforcement cases investigated and the number of cases resulting in action being taken. Barnet was also amongst the first of the London Planning Authorities to introduce the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) to housing developments.

The LGC Awards is the premier event of the year in the local government calendar. The event exists to identify, celebrate and help spread the finest example of innovation and quality delivered by councils daily. Due to the high number of entries year on year, being shortlisted and indeed winning an LGC Award has become the most sought-after accolade in local government. The categories recognise cutting edge ideas from every part of local government and are added, amended and removed year on year to reflect the ever-changing priorities and challenges.
