Capita's Bexley revenues team was created in 1996 and has since worked hard to achieve higher collection rates year on year.
1. What is your team responsible for?

Our team is responsible for the collection of council tax for the London Borough of Bexley in accordance with the Local Government and Finance Act 1992.  In a nutshell we are responsible for the effective billing and collection of council tax from Bexley residents.  This includes maintaining the council tax property database, maximising revenue through the collection of council tax and making decisions on the most appropriate course of action with regards to the remedies available for the recovery of council tax from billing to bailiff.
Our staff have a great knowledge of council tax legislation, regulations and working practices, vast experience of IT technology as it relates to Council Tax, experience of explaining complex information to tax payers in a customer friendly manner and experience of working to achieve set targets and delivering to tight deadlines with little supervision.

2. Roughly how many people are in the Revenues team?

In total there are fourteen of us.

3. Describe a typical day in Revenues team?

Each day is so very different, one day staff could be working within the office, the next representing the Council at court but typically they would be updating the council tax records and responding to customer queries either verbally or in writing.  There is a great sense of teamwork within the office and we are clear about our priorities.  We seek to recommend and deliver continuous improvements to the Council with innovative practices, policies, processes and technology.

4. What is the proudest moment for your team?

Reaching the finals of the IRRV (Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation) ‘Team of the Year’ awards 2016.  The IRRV are looking for organisations to have demonstrated they are raising the standards of service to achieve high levels of performance, customer satisfaction and effective administrative procedures in all aspects of revenues.  We will know if we have won this week!

5. Tell us something that people may not know about the revenues team

Historically we have a very stable workforce with our four longest serving members totalling 101 years of service between them and our newest member just 7 months.
