Purbeck District Council select Capita to support with their local plan

Purbeck District Council has selected Re (Regional Enterprise) Ltd, which is Capita's partnership with the London Borough of Barnet, to help develop the new local plan for the borough.

As part of the contract, Re, the joint venture between Capita and Barnet Council, will provide Purbeck with additional planning resource capacity, offering a range of technical advice and management support to produce the local plan, ready for submission to the Secretary of State by 31 March 2019.

With access to professional planning support, Purbeck will be able to respond to the Government’s new guidance, deliver the Neighbourhood Planning function and develop the local plan, with the capacity to maintain an effective local planning service for residents and businesses.

Bridget Downton, General Manager Planning and Community Services, Purbeck District Council said: “Re has significant industry knowledge and experience of managing local plans. Like many councils, we are experiencing increasing and fluctuating demands on our service and needed access to additional resources to support us through this particularly busy period. The key advantage for us is the increased capacity and resilience. Capita have access to a variety of professionals with different skill sets that we simply couldn’t access in a more traditional agency approach.
Andy Foster, Business Development Director at Capita Local Public Services, said: “We are delighted to support Purbeck District Council with additional planning expertise. Developing the vital local plans is a detailed and resource intensive process, at a time when many local authority planning departments are working at capacity. This approach provides Purbeck with more flexible access to resources where and when they need it most. We look forward to working with the team and bringing the local plan into fruition.”
