Capita delivers roundabout improvement scheme for North Tyneside

Drivers are being advised of road diversions during the overnight resurfacing of A193/Norham Road/Waterville Road roundabout in North Shields.

Subject to factors such as the weather, the resurfacing work is scheduled to start on Monday, September 17 and finish on Friday, September 28 (there will be no work over the weekend of September 22-23). It will take place from 7pm to midnight except on September 27-28 when works will be from 7pm to 6am.

The work is part of the £4.7million North Bank of the Tyne Improvement Scheme, which is being delivered for North Tyneside Council by Capita. The project aims to remove key transport barriers, enabling industry to invest in available land along the River Tyne, an area with development potential for the creation of up to 7,000 local jobs.

It involves improvements at seven locations across the borough, with each piece of work designed to create additional capacity on the road network and improve safe cycling and pedestrian routes.

The A193/Norham Road/Waterville Road roundabout is being provided with an additional lane on the southbound approach to reduce queues and improve journey times. An additional lane will be marked on both the roundabout and the A193 westbound exit to increase capacity.
