Capita preferred bidder for North Tyneside Council

Capita plc today announces that it has been selected as preferred bidder by North Tyneside Council to provide wide-ranging property, highways and maintenance services in a partnership designed to deliver both cost savings and improved services to citizens. The core contract is expected to be worth approximately £152m over 15 years, with significant opportunities for growth.

The services, delivered by Capita's property and infrastructure consultancy, Capita Symonds, in partnership with the Council, would include highways engineering, traffic and transportation planning, properties and facilities management, planning and building control, consumer protections and environmental health services.

Paul Pindar, Capita plc chief executive, said:

"The Capita model, demonstrated in Blackburn, Salford and Swindon for example, is about working in partnership with our clients to achieve genuine service transformation. We focus on working in collaboration to make business and organisations more flexible, responsive and sensitive to people's needs as well as delivering services in the most cost effective manner. This partnership, which underpins North Tyneside Council's agenda to protect jobs and improve services, is expected to deliver at least £41m in savings to the Council."

North Tyneside's Elected Mayor, Mrs Linda Arkley, said:

"Partnership with external providers is the best solution for the council, its taxpayers, its staff and the borough. The partnership options we have selected are by far the most advantageous for North Tyneside. They will enable the council to invest in services, safeguard employee jobs and deliver further growth and investment for the borough, as well as achieve the stringent efficiency targets we have set."
