Capita’s partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Council helps secure funding for authorities across Lancashire

The money has been granted through the Government’s One Public Estate programme,  which provides practical and technical support and funding to councils to deliver property-focused programmes.

For example, the funding will allow Lancashire councils to review their own estates to work more efficiently and also identify space for new homes, while opening up areas for employment and potentially creating hundreds of new jobs. It will support projects which aim to integrate public services throughout the county, helping to save public money while at the same time improving services to residents.

Through its partnership with Blackburn with Darwen, Capita is committed to making the region a more attractive place to live and work, by helping to encourage development that will generate jobs and growth in the Northern Powerhouse.

Capita worked with the Combined Authority to identify property project proposals to submit as part of the application process. Capita’s property expertise, advice and scale were instrumental in securing funding for the authorities.

Samantha Davis, property director at Capita local public services, said:

“We are very pleased to have worked with the shadow Lancashire Combined Authority to secure this funding. This funding will unlock many opportunities within Lancashire, helping to make the region one of the best places in the country to live, work and invest. Capita is continuing to provide support as part of the One Public Estate initiative and is applying for more funding in the next round of application as we speak.”

Councillor Alistair Bradley, vice chair of the shadow Lancashire Combined Authority, said:

“This is a great start to our new partnership working, and demonstrates what we can achieve through the Combined Authority. Through this programme we can identify and bring forward publicly-owned sites for economic and housing development and look more strategically at opportunities for co-location of public sector services in Lancashire, which will mean we can all be more efficient. The support we received from Capita during this process was essential in helping us to secure vital funding for the communities of Lancashire."
