Capita secures four award nominations for regeneration and development projects in the North West

Nominations for the awards, which celebrate best practice and innovation in construction projects across the region, highlight the diverse range of projects Capita is delivering for people in the North West.

The Capita projects nominated for awards are:

  • LED street lighting retrofit – nominated in the sustainability category and led by Capita’s Blackburn Partnership on behalf of Blackburn with Darwen Council. An ambitious project to replace the aged and inefficient light sources on all main and residential routes with energy efficient and low maintenance lighting.
  • Blackburn Bus Station – nominated for sub regional project of the year for Lancashire and led by Capita’s Blackburn Partnership on behalf of Blackburn with Darwen Council. The new station was designed to provide a step-change in the quality and perception of public transport in Blackburn.
  • Bridgewater Canal regeneration – nominated in the preservation and rejuvenation category and led by the Urban Vision partnership on behalf of Salford City Council. The project has played a key part in the renewal of the Bridgewater Canal and provided new towpaths, seating, information, rejuvenated parks, events and celebrations.
  • Hyndburn Wind Farm – nominated in the sustainability category and led by Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure. The project embodies the three tiers of sustainability. The degraded moorland will become a Site of Special Scientific Interest; circa £3m of social benefits will be delivered over the project lifetime to local communities; while the turbines produce the equivalent to 52% of the electricity requirements of the houses in Hyndburn.
