Capita staff raise money for a North Tyneside charity
Hundreds of people will be benefitting from funds raised by Capita staff for North Shields’ charity Meadow Well Connected.
A cheque for just over £1,300 was presented to the charity, with the money going towards supporting around 1,000 volunteers and children attending its facilities on Waterville Road.
The money was raised by Capita staff in North Tyneside who, after voting Meadow Well Connected as their charity of the year in 2018 but have since carried on their partnership, organised a variety of initiatives including bake sales, a raffle and a sponsored bike ride.
Mandi Cresswell, chief officer at Meadow Well Connected, said:
“We’re really grateful to Capita staff for their fantastic support. These funds will be used to help provide around 1,000 meals for our garden volunteers and children attending Connected Kids Club.”
In addition to the £1,311.75, Capita funded two community Christmas feeds at Meadow Well Connected in December 2018. Staff volunteers helped the charity’s kitchen team to prepare, cook and serve the food.
Capita staff have also carried out grounds maintenance and gardening work for the charity.
The company provides pro bono advice and support to the charity after entering into a strategic partnership which commits both organisations to a long-term relationship.
Capita’s North Tyneside partnership director, Margie Burdis, said:
“We really value our relationship with Meadow Well Connected – it is a fantastic charity with a hugely important role within the local community. I’m really proud of our staff for their fundraising and volunteering efforts and we look forward to continuing to work with the charity.”
Meadow Well Connected is a community hub which provides a safe, welcoming space for local people to meet new people and gain new skills through a range of supportive services and opportunities.
Meadow Well Connected currently have around 20,000 visitors a year accessing their broad range of in-house services and projects.
