Successful bid to implement permit schemes for 11 North East councils

Congratulations to Urban Vision’s street works team supported by the North Tyneside partnership, for their successful bid to provide 11 North East local authorities with permit schemes. Urban Vision are a joint venture between Capita, Salford City Council and Galliford Try.

The bid followed an effective permit scheme for Manchester City Council and North Tyneside Council over the last few years and will be worth over £200,000.

Street works manager Robbie Redpath from North Tyneside will be leading the training sessions required to support schemes at the following councils:

Redcar and Cleveland, Newcastle City Council, Gateshead Council, Sunderland City Council, South Tyneside Council, Northumberland County Council, Durham County Council, Darlington Borough Council, Hartlepool Borough Council, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and Middlesbrough Borough Council.

The already successful permit schemes with Manchester City Council and North Tyneside Council carry out the following processes:

  • Benchmarking exercises.
  • Process improvements for inspections (using hand held data capture devices).
  • Training and moderation exercises.
  • Improved debt recovery processes.
  • Management of all back-office street works processes.
  • Provision of one inspector.
  • Full reconciliation and submission of fines and charges applicable to the regulations.

These processes have helped to increase productivity from inspectors which; increases asset protection and the recovery of associated costs; improved co-ordination from a full review of works being carried out; ensured no inspections are missed due to the support of supplementary inspectors and increased revenue through detailed review and submission of all charges that are applicable.

All listed exercises will be implemented within permit schemes for the 11 North East councils.

Well done to all involved with this fantastic achievement.
